Lanzarote is characterized by the constant presence of
the wind. The landscape has a lunar aspect with lava rocks but
there are also fields and tropical vegetation. The Timanfaya
volcano dominates the island with more than 300 craters and
majestic lava fields. Protecting the environment and the feeling
of being in a primitive and pristine, made in Lanzarote
recognition by UNESCO as a " World Biosphere Reserve " .
La Geria
Part of the island is characterized by the cultivation of vines
very special. La Geria is formed by small circular stone walls
to protect the plants from wind, is dug a hole on the bottom and
a growing vine that produces the Malvasia wine. Above these
fields is spread a thin layer of volcanic ash which absorbs the
night dew and provides the necessary moisture to the plants.
The eruption of Timanfaya
On September 1, 1730, after a long period marked by earthquakes
more or less strong , he began a long series of intense volcanic
eruptions. In six years around a third of the island is turned
upside down and twisted in its geography by lava, ash , lava and
craters. At the end of the eruptive phase physiognomy of the
island of Lanzarote will be completely different from the
hitherto known .
