The Namib desert has about 80 million years
and is believed to be one of the oldest deserts in the world.
The name "Namib" is derived from the language of the people
inhabiting the region, Nama and means "broad". The Namib desert
occupies the western coast of Namibia, overlooking the Atlantic
Ocean. Overall extension from North to South is about 1300 km;
from East to West varying between 80 and 200 km. The total area
is around 55,000 km ². The southern Namib between Luderitz and
the Kuiseb River consists of a series of dunes and among the
highest in the world, often characterized by intense colors.
Especially known are the dune 45, described as "the most
photographed in the world" and the Big Daddy, the world's
highest about 300 m
